Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 loaf gluten-free bread (cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 5 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or dairy-free)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (or white/brown sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or vegan butter (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Optional Toppings

  • pure maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, sliced peaches, toasted pecans, sliced almonds (for topping)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the mixture over the bread cubes in the baking dish, ensuring even coverage.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and set.
  • Serve warm with optional toppings like syrup, berries, or nuts.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for best results to absorb the custard.
